Raphael Saadiq was a smooth well polished performer who’s music fit perfectly for a summer night in the park. As the headliner for this year’s second Twilight concert, Saadiq, brought with him a whole stage of passionate performers that included pianos, drums, horns and backup singers. Each artist meshed well together, but also got their own chance to shine as they showed the crowd what they could do in between Saadiq’s popular hits. The breakout performers were the two backup singers that never stopped dancing, and the piano player who was probably pushing 3 maybe even 400 pounds that could still dance better than I ever will. I really did like Saadiq's music, and for me what made the difference was hearing a true band on stage. Many instruments like the saxophone I haven't heard being played live since Jr. High band practice, and typically the bands I go to see live are playing either sampled sounds or computer generated instruments. So being able to see real instruments played by real musicians was definitely a nice change. As far as the crowd went for the night there was still a ton of people, but everyone as a whole seemed to be slightly less obnoxious than usual. With that said there was still people that definitely bugged me. BEGIN RANT- The most annoying people of the concert prize goes to everyone who tried to set down a blanket close to the stage. Attention everyone and anyone who goes to a concert with thousands of people, if you want to lay out on a blanket do it far away from the stage. Otherwise you will simply be staring at people’s butts the entire time, and constantly be stepped on by people that don’t see you because no one expects someone to be stupid enough to lay down on a blanket among so many moving people. Also sorry but same goes to the the people that bring lawn chairs, and then end up standing the whole time because they can't see. Then to make matters worse they are standing while their chairs take up space enough for two or three extra people. Finally, while I’m ranting please also leave your infants at home. I am pretty sure your child who can't yet speak for himself would rather not be around deafening loud music and clouds of smoke when its so late past their bedtime. Likewise they probably aren't even capable of watching TV yet so I am pretty sure they don't want to be up on your shoulders to see the band. Short iPhone videos
