Although I am somewhat torn on the issue of mandated health insurance there is one thing I have never understood. The Supreme Court seems to be divided by political orientation. Why would it matter if a justice was liberal or conservative? Shouldn’t a member of the highest court in the land be able to look at cases objectively based on the law and not their politics? All of the reporting on today’s healthcare verdict paints the picture that members of the Supreme Court look at the laws completely differently depending on their political leanings. Liberals voted that “Obamacare” is constitutional and conservatives, albeit one of them, voted that it was in fact not in accordance with the constitution. Why the discrepancy? Why the split decision? Shouldn’t a group of people that have dedicated their lives to studying law come to the same conclusions.
I know the world does not operate in black and white, or right and wrong, but why can't a Supreme Court justice make a decision that seems more separated from their personal and political ideology. Maybe this polarization of left and right is simply part of the process, but I wish it wasn’t.Give me Obamacare or don’t, but either way it would all be a lot easier if everyone could agree.
